Villeray-Saint-Michel-Parc-Extension
Borough

In 1905 the now Villeray-Saint-Michel-Parc-Extension borough and its then 800 or so residents was annexed to the City of Montreal. Nowadays, with its 150,000 or so inhabitants, Saint-Michel is located in the eastern part of the borough, Park Extension in its western part and Villeray in its centre.

The 21st century is seeing more and more people moving into Villeray-Saint-Michel-Parc-Extension. The area is somewhat a central location with benefits such as an easy access to the Metro stations, a proximity to the Jean-Talon Market, to the Little Italy and to shopping areas such as the Rockland Center and the Marché Central.

Along with the revitalization of the Jarry Park, the area is more and more popular compared to the 1990s. This, in turn, along with the Université de Montréal campus in the neighbouring Park Extension, has caused gentrification issues that have gradually and steadily made quite  an impact since 2010.
