Ville-Marie Electoral Profile

The borough of Ville-Marie electoral profile, as well as all the other Election Montreal electoral profiles are divided into a specific number of districts based on the electoral geography of the borough.

Each of our 19 boroughs and each of their respective socio-economic characteristics and electoral districts are divided in such a way that each district has a similar number of electoral total members.

Ville-Marie three (3) electoral districts

  3. Sainte-Marie and a total of 57,728 electors in 2017

On our next municipal election day, local residents will vote for

  • The mayor of the City of Montreal who is also the mayor of the Ville-Marie borough

and for the six (6) members of the Borough Council

  • the mayor of the borough
  • one (1) city Councillor for each of the three (3) electoral districts
  • two (2) city Councillors chosen by the mayor among the members of the Montreal City Council.

Ville-Marie Electoral Profile and Central City

The Ville-Marie borough, also called our metropolitan central city is the strongest and most productive area of the City and the Island of Montreal. The primary gain for a business based in our central city is proximity followed by a large number of qualified employees.

A central city where most of our higher paying jobs are found. Jobs in computer and related activities such as hardware and software consultancy and supply or, in research and experimental development in natural sciences and engineering or, in social sciences and humanities...

The third important gain is related to the service-based knowledge economy where skills, capabilities and competence are critical for the competitiveness of firms, especially those offering Knowledge Incentive Business Services.

KIBS that are mainly involved in providing knowledge-intensive support to scientists, engineers and other experts.

Knowledge, insights and understandings that are usually best spread during face-to-face interactions within small distances and in dense areas such as city centers where formal and informal meetings are likely to happen.

Ville-Marie Electoral Profile and Business Area

Cities with successful business areas must always make sure that the benefits of doing business in such areas outweighs high office rents and traffic congestion. Business areas with effective public transport and sufficient office space to control increases in office rental costs.

The five main keys of intervention for creating strong city center economies are: 1) relocate employment in Ville-Marie where possible 2) create an attractive and functional physical environment 3) provide proper transport and infrastructure 4) offer incentives to stimulate business activities and 5) make good use of temporary space.
