Eco Friendly Leather Apparel

Leather, including eco friendly leather apparel will never be an  animal-friendly product simply because the hide used to make leather comes from killed animals. Hide for larger animals and skin for smaller ones.

In terms of environment, an untanned hide or skin has little impact on nature, no more than grazing animals who convert grass and other forages into meat, milk or wool.

Genuine Leather vs Artificial Leather

The real eco damage occurs during the tanning process that comes with a toxic cocktail of chemicals such as formaldehyde, mineral salts and chemical derivatives of coal-tar.

Animal skin that needs to be tanned so it doesn't rot, chemicals that convert hide into leather and remaining toxic water that impacts human health and that wreaks havoc on our aquatic ecosystems.

Nontoxic vegetable tanning is an ancient practice that uses naturally derived plant chemicals to purify the hide but, the process is more expensive and requires special skill sets.

Fortunately, the leather industry is more and more environmental and is now promoting sustainable practices based on customer expectations and on pressures for green and for eco friendly products.

Genuine Leather Jackets

Leather is a by-product of cattle such as cows and bulls already processed for their meat. That said, the best thing about real leather is its durability. Leather is long lasting and is available in an impressive variety of aesthetic styles and colors.

Eco leather apparel is naturally comfortable, recyclable, repairable, versatile and luxurious. Although expensive, leather has a much higher value than textile, mostly because leather looks better, lasts longer and is more comfortable. Oiled regularly and stored carefully, leather can last at least 30 years.

Leather Jackets or Coats

Leather jackets or coats are mostly black or brown. Black works well if your wardrobe has lots of solid and sharp contrasts, while brown works well with a more muted wardrobe with lots of earth tones and textured fabrics.

Except navy blue, other, brighter colors are available but less versatile. It’s hard to get away with wearing them day in and day out. It might be a good idea to avoid flashy colors such as red, pale blue or green unless your wardrobe matches any of these colors. The key with leather is to properly match it.

Lords and Ladies Leather Jackets

Black is always dramatic and so is pure white on people with black hair. Pastel colors can be tricky but all shades of gray, from charcoal to a soft dove are flattering to men and women with black hair.

As for blonde-haired people, they have a wide range of colors to choose from. Red, brown, mustard, pink, blue, gray, classic black and white are some of their best colors.

Gold, orange-reds, bark browns and deep forest greens are great complements to brown hair. So is a mossy to olive and a sage range of greens. Dark chocolate, creamy lighter tones and browns with a reddish cast are also flattering to brunettes.
