Montreal business district has always been located within the limits of the Ville-Marie borough. A financial center that, in the past, occupied large areas along the Saint-Lawrence River and on rue Saint-Jacques also called St-James Street also called "la rue des banques".

A business district that slowly moved further north and that is now located in the Peter McGill district also in Ville-Marie. Its main axes being Maisonneuve and René-Lévesque Boulevards between Bleury and Atwater Streets.

Place Ville-Marie, a large office and shopping complex built between 1958 and 1962 is one of the main reasons why our business district eventually moved to the heart of the Ville-Marie borough.

Our Montreal Metro system was inaugurated in 1966 and recently celebrated its 50th anniversary. A metro system that now comprises four lines running on 71 kilometers and serving 68 metro stations linked to many different train stations and bus stops.

An "above the city" downtown area with its many distinctive skyscrapers and its many different national and international headquarters .

Also in Ville-Marie, an "under the city" network with an interesting series of interconnected office towers, shopping malls, hotels, convention halls such as the Palais des congrés, along with many residential buildings and commercial areas.

Downtown Montreal is also home to the Montreal Museum of Fine Arts, the Grévin Wax Museum, the Redpath Museum, the McCord Museum, the Quartier des Spectacles, the Gay Village...
