The borough of Ahuntsic-Cartierville ranks number fifteen (15) out of the nineteen (19) boroughs of the City of Montreal in terms of total area, number five (5) in terms of population size and number nine (9) in terms of population density.
The borough shares its borders with the Rivière-des-Prairies as well as with the Montréal-Nord, Villeray-Saint-Michel-Parc-Extension and Saint-Laurent boroughs.
In 2016, 143,853 residents lived in the borough with a variation of only 1% between 2011 and 2016. Also in 2016, the density of the population was 8,682 residents per square kilometre and the unemployed rate was 11%.

In spite of the general quality of the environment in Ahuntsic-Cartierville, local elected officials have problems to mend and solutions to find.
Among other matters, the quality of the habitat in certain areas needs to be improved, traffic on main roads in industrial sectors needs to be better controlled, air traffic over the territory is a source of disturbance and some of the commercial streets and areas need to be revitalised.
